Dark Chocolate Seed Bars recipe on http://www.bettybake.co.za .
Great for picnics and school lunches. This would also make a great present - cut into bars and pile high in a jar and dressed up with a wide ribbon. (would be so pretty)... Christmas maybe?
You can make these really healthy by adding as much seeds packed with nutrients as possible!
I also added some organic coconut flakes, a half a handful of raisins and 2 tablespoons of oats.
Nuts would work well too in this recipe.
I found the salt really bought out the flavour of the chocolate and seeds nicely so don't skip this - its a great addition.
The seed mix I used was:
Sesame seeds
Pumpkin seeds
Sunflower seeds
coconut flakes (organic)
Rolled oats (a teeny bit) leave out if very sensitive to gluten
a half a handful of raisins
Other things that would work well in these bars:
chopped up almonds
Macadamia nuts
chopped up dried peaches
Linseeds
Desiccated coconut
a little ground cinnamon sprinkled in the mix
INGREDIENTS
100grams bar/slab Dark Chocolate ( I used 70%)
350ml mixed seeds and a little dried fruit - totally up to you - use what you like
salt flakes
METHOD
Break up your chocolate into small pieces and place in a double boiler.
Once chocolate is smooth stir in seeds and dried fruit etc
Press down onto a wax paper lined baking tray and pat into shape
Place another piece of wax paper on top and make sure to press firmly so there are no air bubbles
Peel back the top layer of wax paper and sprinkle on some salt flakes - just a little
Leave to set
Once hard cut with a sharp knife and store in an airtight container
ENJOY :)
What would you put in your bars?

DeleteHi Betty,
ReplyDeleteI love the recipe since it is like a no bake bar (except melting the chocolate) and you can use lots of "raw" ingredients. Loaded with lots of good stuff! Looks pretty too!
What a great idea and diabetic friendly too with the dark choc :-)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this looks stunning. I have a thing for Cranberries, so would def include those in there, mmm yummy
ReplyDeleteLove, love those pics - and the sound of the bars!! They remind me of the Gilly muesli bars you used to be able to buy at pharmacies (maybe you can still!).
