I don't look like a health coach and here is why...

Bernice Griffiths, health coach, PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, hormones, natural, cape town, south africa, health food, self love, woman, eating, lifestyle,

Time to lift the curtain and for you to know what is really going on with me.

Im a health coach but I don't look like a perfect, slim, gym clothes wearing coach.
I really do practice what I teach - I eat a mostly vegetable based diet, I drink water and herbal tea (no
caffeine) I don't do gluten, dairy or any preservatives or additives. I eat only organic foods and I do exercise. I make sure I have stable blood sugar and I love myself and look after my body, my mind and my spirit. - but yet I don't look like the perfect female body. I don't mean super skinny or the distorted view... I just mean slender and healthy for my body shape.

healthy, health, food, natural, PCOS, healing, self love, woman, hormones, bernice griffiths, health coach, Skype, world wide,

The reason for this is:
I have PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) which is an imbalance of female hormones that affects not just your sex hormones but also your other hormones like insulin and other areas of the body.
Before I knew about eating well and our bodies hormones I was placed on stronger and stronger birth control pills... because that was what the doctor recommended for me. And if the doctor said it then it must be right - right? That was how I used to think.

Since studying health and nutrition I have learnt so much about food and how it affects our body. I have supported it in every way and feel great. I feel well, I have energy and mentally I am good... EXCEPT!!!  my hormones still need work.
Im carrying extra weight around my middle and so I came to realise I cannot do this alone.

No matter how much I read and how much knowledge I have and how much of my eating I change - I needed someone to help me. So for the last 3 - 4 months I have put myself under the care of a Naturopathic Doctor. She has been great and slowly my rhythm of hormones are trickling back into place... slowly but still there is progress.

Note the slowly! So often we want everything NOW! It must be better now. I want to be thin now. I want that new car now. Give me a new life now. The thing is life rarely works that way.
We are tricked into believing it is that way through credit cards - buy everything you want now! Those clothes or get a loan for a car. But in the real world you need to put one foot after the other and walk step by step in the right direction. YES it can be fast at times and other times is can be slow - but point yourself in the right direction and love yourself for taking the time to do this for yourself.

love yourself, bernice griffiths, quote, be kind, coach, health, walk, life, live, Skype, be yourself,

I am not perfect - I don't look like a perfect health coach but I love myself enough to walk in the direction of healing and self-love.

Are you feeling frustrated about your health? What keeps you awake at night - wishing it would change? Tell me - I'd love to hear.

Your imperfect but very real coach

Bernice

  5. Hi B,
Thanks for sharing this with us - very encouraging.
I too finally decided to visit a Naturopathic Doctor after battling for years and years with all kinds of skin & digestive issues. Some of my results came back yesterday as having very high inflammation and very low Vitamin D. Still waiting for the other results.
My journey to recovery starts now and I am very encouraged by your blogs and facebook posts.
