As much as I enjoy Food blogging which entails:
1) Making food
2) photography it
3) then pain painstakingly record every ingredient and typing it out
4) downloading the photos from my camera to my computer
5) editing and resizing them
6) watermarking photos
7) proof reading and finally uploading the recipe to this blog
I also enjoy just typing and rambling without any care for exact results - Example: was it 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon of baking powder in the recipe? (which could mean a huge and terrible flop for whoever makes the recipe- YIKES!)
I love to just sit at my desk and think of things to write- pair it with a pretty picture and press publish.
Then I sit back and hope to see who interacts....
Its funny that when I spend countless hours on a recipe I get 1 or 2 comments - Example: ooh yum or going to try this tonight (which I appreciate any comments - so thank you) but none of the interaction I am really seeking. I did just spend so much time (Hours) on 1 blog post but it rarely gets loads of comments even though I can see in my blog analytics that it is being read (thank you for reading fellow recipe seekers for reading)
But the truth be told - When I am real - you know just being me. I sit down and write about the general stuff or how I feel then its seems that people will comment (yay!)
It is as though they can maybe identify with my online random thoughts - and that makes writing this blog all the worth while. Who wants to publish content week after week and have it feel flat as if the world around is buzzing by without a thought? I don't.
So with that I say: write as if you are a rambling silly person - the world will thank you with comments ;) (I hope)
Blogging is meant to be enjoyed - right?
Happy rambling

- If you are a blogger: Do like comments or doesn't it matter to you?
- If you are a recipe reader: Does it bother you when non food related posts go up on this blog?
I can completely identify! I love getting comments and when they stop for a few weeks, I am often ... concerned. My posts are being read, and I get a lot of reach on Facebook and by email - but it's not quite the same, is it?
ReplyDeleteI often get comments on my WIP craft projects so when I'm feeling low, I know to get out something that looks impressive to photograph :) KEEP posting your recipes and your non-food posts - they're both much appreciated. x
thank you Stacey for this lovely comment - it is great to know Im not alone
Deletekind regards

ps keep blogging ;)
I don't always comment, but I do love reading what you write and photograph. Please keep posting - although I can't promise that I will comment more.....

I think if you're not a blogger yourself, it can be scary to comment on someone's post. When you blog...you know how much a comment means so its easier (and less scary!) to leave one.
ReplyDeleteI do find that too, the less effort/planning I do, the more reactions I get. And another factor is the more blogs I visit and comment on, the more visit and comment on mine. It's all good!!
I understand about being scary to comment - but maybe with facebook people are getting a bit more used to it ? maybe... I hope so ;)
Deleteand yes networking is always good

ps thanks for the comment
Just the other day I was looking through your Instagram timeline and I thought to myself. I wish I could be half as diligent in adding watermarks in my photos!
ReplyDeleteOne day my photos will look professional like Betty's.
Now that I know the amount of time you spend on a single post, I think I should head over to my blog and type a post :)
aww thank you Sparrow at heart that is so lovely for you to say :) this commetn REALLY made my day!
Deletehave a super day and keep blogging!

There has always been a lack of comments on my blog. I get feedback via twitter and occasionally email but very little directly on the posts.
ReplyDeleteI swing between not letting it bother me to questioning whether to just stop.
But while it remains fun to do I probably won't. :-)
well thanks for commenting here :) great to have you
DeleteThis is so true!!
ReplyDeletethanks Zirkie
Deletealways good to know Im not alone :)

The thing is that for us as bloggers, comments are important not just from a "Helloooooo, is there anybody out there???" *sulks & wonders why I do this* perspective, but also to improve your SEO. I don't really think people who don't blog get why it matters to us. I saw on Statcounter the other day that someone in Tehran spent half an our on my site. I want to know who that was, dammit! Male or female? Are they happy? Does Iran suck as much as it looks like it does? Do they get sand everywhere?
ReplyDeleteWhat if the world is actually only filled with bloggers reading other blogger's sites in an attempt to connect and no one else actually gives a crap about us? Except our mums, of course.
I love your comment Miss Ives :) so cool and honest and true!
Deletehave a fabulous weekend

I started blogging a few months ago. I never realized how much time and effort needed to go into it. It almost seems overwhelming. I feel like I'm starting out from behind, and I constantly have to remind myself that I just need to keep plugging along.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to read this post of yours since I have similar questions as I'm trying to gain a little focus on my blog. If you have any feedback/tips for someone just starting out, I'd love to hear all of them. :)
Now, If you will excuse me, I think I'll spend some more time hopping around, learning some more about you :)
well done Rhonda - you are doing well- keep it up and thanks for commenting :)
